Biography

Marija Pavlović started to play the clarinet at the age of 9. In 1994 she went to the Academy of Music of Zagreb to continue her musical education. She graduated in 1997 and subsequently started a postgraduate at the Mozarteum (Salzburg, Austria) with the famous clarinettist Alois Brandhofer (solo clarinet of the 'Berliner Philharmoniker').

She graduated in Salzburg in 2002 ‘cum laude’. Marija did a ‘Kontaktstudium’ for one semester with the famous clarinettist Eduard Brunner at Saarbrücken (Germany), two years of Specialisation with Prof. Walter Boeykens at the Royal Flemish Conservatory Antwerpen and she took private lessons with Pascal Moragues (solo clarinet from L’Orchestre de Paris).During her education she had a scholarchip from “Ministery of Culture” and “Robus stichting” (Belgium).

Competitions

  • She won a second prize at the ‘Clarinet Competition’ in Zagreb, when she was 12, and two years later she won a first prize.
  • 1997: international Yamaha prize for woodwinds.
  • 1998: first prize in the Croatian Radio Competition
  • 1998: first prize "Darko Lukic"
  • 1998: American Express Award and Zagreb Philharmonic Award for the most talented and most successful young musician of the year
  • 2001: she was member of the Foundation Yehudi Menuhin
  • 2002: "Würdigenpreis"of the Ministry of Culture and Science of Austria for being one of the best students of the Mozarteum in Salzburg
  • 2006: first prize on competition AudiMozart in Rovereto (Italy)
  • 2006: special prize "Poulenc award" on IBLA Grand Prize competition (Ragusa)

She played with R. Barshai, D. Callegari, V.Šutej, P.Dešpalj, N. Milton, A. Burribayev, P. Csaba, J. Wildner, D. Russel Davis, Y. Lee, M.Horvat. In 2001 she was invited by the Santader Academy (Esp.) where she played chamber music and orchestra with e.g. H. Schellenberger, R. Vlatković and P. Csaba and she participated in courses with Z. Bronn, K. Thunemann, A. Adorjan. She performed in solo in USA, Austria, Belgium, Israël, Deutschland, Italy...

Marija has performed a big number of solo concerts with orchestra's like Croatian Chamber Orchestra, Dubrovnik Symphonic Orchestra, Rijeka Chamber Orchestra, Zagreb Soloists, HRT Symphony Orchestra of Croatia, Haydn orchestra di Bolzano e Trento, Montreal chamber orchestra on different national and international festivals. Recently she started playing chamber music with pianist Martina Filjak. In the summer of 2009 she played on the international chamber music festival "Musique et Nature en Bauges" (France) where she played chamber music with pianist François-René Duchâble and bassoon player Pieter Nuytten.
